Speaker of the House of Commons: A look back at the past week

On Tuesday, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, welcomed to Parliament the Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, His Excellency, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola. The flag of Nigeria was also raised for the first time outside Parliament. The meeting provided an opportunity to share perspectives on energy issues and climate change, and to discuss the relationship between the two nations.
On Wednesday, the Speaker welcomed to Parliament, Mr Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.
Mr Speaker also welcomed A-Level Politics sixth form students from Barclay Academy for an engaging Q&A session.
On Wednesday, the Speaker also chaired Prime Minister's Questions, as well as further business in the Chamber.

Meeting with the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia
Speaker Hoyle welcomed his Georgian counterpart, Mr Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday 9 February. This year marks the 30th anniversary of bilateral relations between the UK and Georgia.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle hosted the get-together as part of his Speaker-led diplomacy to establish enduring ties between countries and parliamentarians.
Sir Lindsay thanked the Chairman for his visit, adding that it was important that relationships and friendships between the two Parliaments grow even stronger.
"It’s the second overseas visit in my life because I’m new in politics – it's an honour for me to be here."
