Ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit
On Tuesday, the Speaker of the House, Sir Lindsay Hoyle travelled to New Delhi, India, to carry out engagements with the British High Commission and attend the ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20).
On Wednesday, the Speaker met with the British High Commissioner, Alex Ellis, and then shared reflections from the House of Commons at an All Staff Meeting with the India British High Commission Network.
In the afternoon, the Speaker spoke at a Carnegie India Event promoting democracy and the Commonwealth. Later in the afternoon the Speaker laid a wreath at the Commonwealth War Graves Delhi War Cemetery.
On Thursday morning, the Speaker visited Ahlcon Public School in Mayur Viha, New Delhi, for a Premier League Primary Stars showcase. Later, the Speaker met with Youth Parliament Researchers from PRS Legislative. In the afternoon, the Speaker met with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
On Friday, the Speaker attended the Inaugural Session of the P20 Summit and sessions on Agenda 2030 for SDGs: Showcasing Achievements, Accelerating Progress and Sustainable Energy Transition: Gateway to Green Future.
Throughout the day the Speaker met with the India Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson, Harivansh Narayan Singh, the Italian Senate President, Ignazio La Russa and the Indonesian House of Representatives Speaker, Puan Maharani. The Speaker also met with the Acting Pan-African Parliament President, Dr Ashebir Gayo, and the Chairman of the Oman State Counci, Sheikh Abdulmalik Al Khalili.
On Saturday, the Speaker attended day two of the P20 and delivered a speech during the session on the transformation in Peoples’ Lives through Public Digital Platforms. The Speaker also met with the First Vice President of the Spanish Senate, Javier Maroto, the Speaker of the Korean National Assembly, Kim Jin-pyo, the President of the IPU Parliament, Duarte Pacheco, the Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament, Seah Kian Peng, the Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council, Saqr Ghobash, and the Nigerian Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
No House business took place during the week as the House was adjourned for conference recess.

Carnegie India Event
The Speaker spoke at an event hosted by the Carnegie India about the UK parliamentary system and the role of Speaker of the House of Commons. It event was followed by a discussion on promoting democracy and the Commonwealth.
Wreath laying at the Commonwealth War Graves Delhi War Cemetery
At the Commonwealth War Graves Delhi War Cemetery the Speaker laid a wreath alongside British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis, and Defence Advisor, Nick Sawyer, to honour those from the Commonwealth who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the First and Second World Wars.

Meeting Premier League Primary Stars
The Speaker met with children at Ahlcon Public School to see the positive impact a Premier League and British Council Primary Stars Programme, is having on them. The programme teaches the children about being active and helps develop essential life skills through sports.
Meeting Youth Parliament Researchers
The Speaker met with Youth Parliament Researchers from PRS Legislative to hear how young people in India are supporting policy-making. The Speaker heard about their ideas on how parliamentary procedures can evolve to further support democracy.
Meeting the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
The Speaker connected with members of the Indian business community at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) event to hear about how parliamentarians can support dialogue between trading partners.

Attending the ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20)
The Speaker attended the ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit in New Delhi and gave a speech on the UK’s experience of e-petitions during the fourth session ‘Transformation in Peoples’ Lives through Public Digital Platform’. The Speaker also met with fellow Speakers and Presidents of the national parliaments during the two-day summit.
