Speaker of the House of Commons: A look back
7 November - 13 November 2022
On Monday, ahead of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle opened the Constituency Garden of Remembrance in New Palace Yard together with the Royal British Legion.
The Speaker also welcomed to the House of Commons, Speaker Anthony Rota and a Canadian delegation. Speaker Rota also attended and spoke at the Constituency Garden of Remembrance opening ceremony.
On Tuesday, the Speaker chaired Chamber business and also attended and spoke at the second UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly session.
On Wednesday, the Speaker chaired Prime Minister's Questions, as well as further business in the Chamber including a statement on COP27.
The House of Commons rose for November recess on Thursday 9th November.
Over the Remembrance weekend, the Speaker attended the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph. The Elizabeth Tower was also illuminated with poppies to mark Remembrance Sunday.

7 November
Opening of the Constituency Garden of Remembrance
Together with the Royal British Legion, the Speaker installed the Constituency Garden of Remembrance in New Palace Yard. The garden provided an opportunity for MPs, Ministers and representatives from the Commonwealth and British Overseas Territories to participate in an act of Remembrance representing their constituency or overseas territory.
8 November
UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly session
The Speaker attended and spoke at the second UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly session. The session provided an opportunity to discuss a range of issues including energy co-operation across Europe, and relations between the PPA, civil society and the devolved institutions.

The Elizabeth Tower was also illuminated with poppies to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Images of falling poppies were projected onto the Elizabeth Tower to mark the first Remembrance Sunday since the death of Her Majesty the Queen.
