Speaker of the House of Commons: A look back
18 December - 19 December 2023

On Monday, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, welcomed children from the Dreams and Wishes charity to Speaker's House for a Christmas party.
The Speaker also chaired Chamber business including Questions to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.
On Tuesday, the Speaker visited the Parliament postal staff in Portcullis House.
In the afternoon, the House rose for the Christmas recess and will return on Monday 8th January, 2024.
During the week, the other business in the Chamber included:

Hosting the Dreams and Wishes Christmas party in Speaker's House
The Speaker welcomed children cared for the the Dreams and Wishes charity to the Speaker's State Rooms for their annual Christmas party, a tradition started by Speaker Weatherill. The excited children were greeted by the Welsh Guards, the 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards and Father Christmas.

Visiting the House of Commons postal staff
The Speaker delivered some festive cheer to the Post Room in Portcullis House, when he dropped by to thank the Royal Mail team for their hard work over the festive period and wish them a merry Christmas ahead of the festive break.
