Speaker of the House of Commons: A look back
13 November - 19 November
On Monday, the Speaker of the House, Sir Lindsay Hoyle chaired Chamber business including Questions to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.
In the afternoon, the Speaker welcomed the winners and runners up of the Royal Commonwealth Society Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition to Speaker’s House.
On Tuesday, the Speaker hosted the Australian High Commissioner, the Rt Hon Stephen Smith, at Speaker’s House.
On Wednesday, the Speaker hosted Philippines Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Mr Teodoro Locsin Jr, at Speaker’s House. In the afternoon the Speaker chaired Chamber business including Prime Minister's Questions.
On Thursday, the Speaker the Speaker welcomed young people from the British Overseas Territories (BOTs) to Speaker’s House today for the inaugural UK Overseas Territories Association Youth Summit.
On Friday, the Speaker opened the morning session of the annual UK Youth Parliament session. In the afternoon the Speaker welcomed debate leads, and young representatives from the British Overseas Territories and the Crown Dependencies attending UK Youth Parliament to Speaker’s House.

Winners and runners up of the Royal Commonwealth Society Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition
The Speaker hosted the winners and runners up of the Royal Commonwealth Society Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition at Parliament so they could see the House of Commons in action as part of their Winners Week visits.
14 November
Welcoming the Australian High Commissioner
The Speaker welcomed the Australian High Commissioner to the UK, the Rt Hon Stephen Smith, to Speaker’s House. During the visit they discussed the historic relationship and modern partnership the UK and Australia share, future Anzac Day events at Parliament and their shared love of rugby football league.

Welcoming the Philippines Ambassador to the UK to Speaker’s House
The Speaker welcomed the Philippines Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency E Mr Teodoro Locsin Jr, to Speaker’s House. During their meeting they had the chance to discuss the strong links between the people of the UK and the Philippines and the recent British Group Inter-Parliamentary Union visit by the Filipino Senate President.

Hosting the inaugural UK Overseas Territories Association Youth Summit
The Speaker welcomed young people from the British Overseas Territories (BOTs) to Speaker’s House for the inaugural UK Overseas Territories Association Youth Summit Youth Summit. It was a great opportunity for young people from across the UK Overseas Territories to come together and discuss the issues affecting their communities.
17 November
UK Youth Parliament
The Speaker chaired the morning sitting of the 2023 UK Youth Parliament in the House of Commons The UK Youth Parliament gives young people the opportunity to speak in the Chamber to help inspire them to continue engaging and raising issues that matter to them. As part of the day the Speaker welcomed the UK Youth Parliament debate leads and special speakers from the British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies to Speaker’s House for a lunch.
