Speaker of the House of Commons: A look back
11 December - 17 December 2023
On Monday, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, chaired Chamber business including Questions to the Secretary of State for Education.
On Tuesday, the Speaker hosted a staff Christmas carol service in Speaker's House.
On Wednesday morning, the Speaker welcomed to the House of Commons, the Grenada High Commissioner, Her Excellency Racher Croney.
In the afternoon the Speaker chaired Chamber business including Prime Minister's Questions.
In the evening, the Speaker and the Lord Speaker hosted a Christmas carol service in Westminster Hall for the whole Parliamentary community. The Speaker also took part in a Hanukkah candle lighting in Westminster Hall to celebrate the seventh night of Hanukkah.

Staff carols in Speaker’s House
The Speaker welcomed House of Commons staff to Speaker's House for a carols service with the Parliamentary Choir to celebrate Christmas.

Welcoming the Grenada High Commissioner
The Speaker welcomed the Grenada High Commissioner, Excellency Racher Croney, to Speaker's House. During their meeting they discussed the connections between the UK and Grenada, the Commonwealth and strengthening the relationship between the UK Parliament and Grenada's Houses of Parliament.

Celebrating Christmas in Westminster Hall
The Speaker and the Lord Speaker hosted a carol service in Westminster Hall for the whole parliamentary community. They were joined by the Parliament Choir and the International Staff band of The Salvation Army to get in the festive spirit and coming together to sing Christmas carols.

Celebrating Hanukkah in Westminster Hall
The Speaker took part in a candle lighting in Westminster Hall for the seventh night of Hanukkah. This was the first time Hanukkah has been celebrated in Westminster Hall.
