UK Parliament Week 2024:
The Outreach Team

UK Parliament Week (UKPW) celebrates what Parliament does, how it works, and how you can get involved.
During the week, our Education and Engagement Outreach team travelled far and wide, visiting schools, colleges, and community groups to bring Parliament to life across every nation and region of the UK.
But our work doesn't stop there - our team delivers sessions all year round as part of a national learning programme.
Explore the highlights, where we went, the people we met, and what it's like to be a UK Parliament Outreach officer! #UKPW24
Where did we go?
UK-wide reach
- The map shows all the places our amazing Outreach team visited during UKPW!
- In schools, the team connected with 4,121 students and 204 teachers through 30 sessions.
- They also ran 27 community sessions, both online and in person, reaching 847 participants.
Scotland
Our Outreach officer for Scotland - Phil - went on an epic 210 mile journey to run sessions in the most northerly towns of the UK mainland.
"I really feel strongly that outreach should touch the lives of not only community groups that are less likely to engage, but also pupils who are rural and remote."
Phil had a brilliant and chilly time celebrating UKPW with schools across Caithness, and the schools enjoyed their visits too:
"It was invaluable for pupils in the far north of Scotland to know that they matter to UK Parliament."

North West and Yorkshire & the Humber
Rachael held sessions with a range of schools, colleges and communities across the North West and Yorkshire.
She connected with community groups from Northern Trains Ltd., as well as Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service through the King's Trust.
Here she is in action at Craven College in Skipton, North Yorkshire.
"[Rachael's] session was very helpful, reinforcing things they'd already learned, and introducing them to some new concepts […] Rachael had an engaging style and it was the right length. I would certainly like to do this again next academic year and tie it in with Parliament Week."
North East and Yorkshire & the Humber
Lynn brought Parliament to life for young people throughout her UKPW, reaching primary schools across the North East and Yorkshire, and hosting a community session with Oxhill Youth Club in partnership with the King's Trust.
Here she is with pupils from Brighton Avenue Primary School:
East Midlands
From Derby to Leicester, Malcolm was busy leading sessions for colleges and ESOL groups, in lecture halls and local libraries.
He also hosted one of our popular UK Parliament live webinars.
Here are some of his reflections on the week:
"It's been quite a UK Parliament Week! Through visits and talks across the East Midlands I've spoken to 650 young people & 144 adults. There's been a real buzz about democracy: a really positive week."

West Midlands
Clare, our West Midlands Officer, had an eventful week engaging with schools, colleges, and community groups.
Highlights included a session at Nova Training Wellington, which helps young people progress into employment, and a snowy visit to Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College in Birmingham.
Despite the weather, Clare kept her sessions running across the region!
London and online
Our Outreach Manager, Nikki, hosted an official UKPW event in Parliament for the public.
Meanwhile, the team honed their digital outreach skills, running a series of live online webinars. Hundreds joined to learn how Parliament works and how to get involved, with plenty of insightful questions along the way.
Take a behind-the-scenes look at these live sessions, delivered by Outreach officers Malcolm (East Midlands) and Kerrie (South East):
East of England
Kelly hosted an online session with Beyond Detention, which supports refugees in Bedford.
She then travelled to the East Coast, visiting several primary schools in and around Southend-on-Sea.
Here's how Down Hall Primary School enjoyed the visit:
"Today the KS2 children had a special visitor from the Houses of Parliament. The children learnt about some of the history of Parliament and how Parliament plays a part in passing laws for the country."
The South East
Alongside hosting our live webinars, Kerrie led a series of engaging sessions for adults and families at the stunning RHS Wisley in Surrey.
Here, Kerrie stands next to Hope, Parliament's Lego Suffragette, who joined the Outreach session in Wisley's Learning Centre!
