Speaker of the House of Commons: A look back at the past week

On Monday, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, presided over Chamber business which included an Urgent Question to the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs on the killing of Shireen Abu Aqla.

The Speaker also welcomed Chelsea Pensioners to Parliament.

On Tuesday, the Speaker chaired a Statement from the Foreign Secretary on Northern Ireland Protocol.

In the afternoon the Speaker met with Anoosheh Ashoori and his family at a reception held in Speaker's House, celebrating Mr Ashoori’s release from detention.

On Wednesday, the Speaker welcomed Albanian Ambassador, HE Mr. Qirjako Qirko to the House of Commons to discuss the strong working relationship between the UK and Albania.

Wednesday afternoon, the Speaker chaired Prime Minister's Questions.

The Speaker also joined Joy Division and New Order band members Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris for a moving discussion on treating mental health and the prevention of suicide.

Over the weekend, the Speaker celebrated the national day celebrated by the British Overseas Territory of St Helena by flying flag of St Helena in New Palace Yard.
