Speaker of the House of Commons: A look back

On Monday, the Speaker of the House, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, chaired Commons Chamber business including a Statement on: Manchester Arena Inquiry: Volume 3 Report.
On Tuesday, the Speaker attended the Women in Westminster: The 100 event - an annual celebration of inspirational and influential women in Westminster.
On Wednesday, the Speaker marked International Women's Day with a flag being raised outside Parliament. The Speaker was also proud to welcome Angela Rippon to the House of Commons.
During the day the Speaker also had meetings with the Ambassador for Korea, and the Governor designate to the Cayman Islands.
Furthermore, the Speaker chaired Chamber business including Prime Minister's Questions.
On Thursday, the Protecting Democracy Policing Conference took place in Speaker's House with representatives of the Parliamentary Security Department speaking about Parliamentary Security’s role in Protecting Democracy. The safety of Members and those who work with them is one of the Speaker's key priorities in ensuring MPs are able to carry out their democratic duties.

Welcoming Angela Rippon to the House of Commons
The Speaker was honoured to welcome Angela Rippon to the House of Commons
Angela has been a familiar face and voice in British broadcasting for over 50 years with her award winning journalism, and the Speaker was glad to be joined by her in Speaker's House on International Women's Day.
Meeting with the Ambassador for Korea
The Speaker welcomed the Republic of Korea’s ambassador to Parliament - on the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The Commons Speaker marked the occasion by showing His Excellency Yeocheol Yoon a plaque received by his predecessor, Speaker Weatherill, in 1983 to commemorate a century since the 1883 Treaty of Friendship and Commerce was signed in Seoul.
Sir Lindsay arranged the meeting as part of his Speaker-led UK parliamentary diplomacy to establish enduring ties between countries and parliamentarians.
Meeting with the Governor designate to the Cayman Islands
The Speaker was pleased to welcome to Speaker's House, the Governor designate to the Cayman Islands, Jane Owen.
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss strengthening friendships between the UK and the British Overseas Territories.
