Speaker of the House of Commons: A look back

On Monday, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle chaired Chamber business including an Urgent Question on Prepayment Meters, and the Northern Ireland Budget Bill.
The Speaker also met teachers from across the country taking part in the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador programme.
During the day the Speaker signed the Holocaust Educational Trust's Book of Commitment.
On Tuesday, the Speaker welcomed to the House of Commons, the President of the Women Political Leaders, Silvana Koch-Mehrin.
On Wednesday, the Speaker chaired Prime Minister's Questions. The Speaker also welcomed; the Ambassador of Denmark, Mr René Dinesen; and the Premier of Montserrat, Joseph Farrell.
The Speaker also attended the National Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony in St. John’s Smith Square.
On Thursday, events took place marking Holocaust Memorial Day. This included a talk in Speaker's House with Holocaust and genocide survivors. In the afternoon, the Speaker led a Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony which was attended by faith leaders, MPs and the parliamentary community.

The Speaker took part in a question-and-answer session with teachers taking part in the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador programme
The Speaker was delighted to meet teachers from across the country taking part in the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador programme during a question-and-answer session in Speaker's House.
The Speaker enjoyed talking with teachers about how to get young people more interested in politics. He used the opportunity to thank them all for their hard work.
The Speaker signed the Holocaust Educational Trust's Book of Commitment
The Speaker pledged his commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day and to honouring those who were murdered during the Holocaust.

Welcoming the Ambassador of Denmark
A 335-year-old Act of Parliament was the focus of the debut meeting between the Speaker of the House of Commons and Denmark’s ambassador to the UK, Mr René Dinesen.
The 1688 Act for the naturalisation of Prince George of Denmark as an English subject, following his marriage to Princess Anne, is one of the oldest documents held by the Parliamentary Archives relating to the UK and Denmark.
Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle told His Excellency Rene Dinesen that the script was indicative of the strength of relations between the two countries.
Welcoming the Premier of Montserrat
The Speaker welcomed the Hon, Joseph Farrell to the House of Commons.
Their meeting provided a good opportunity to discuss the strong working relationship between the UK and Montserrat.
The Speaker and the Premier also discussed the long awaited plans to rebuild the Montserrat Parliament as they have not been in permanent accommodation since a hurricane hit the British Overseas Territory in 1997.

The House of Commons marked Holocaust Memorial Day
In a special Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony in Portcullis House, the Speaker was joined by faith leaders, MPs and the parliamentary community.
Together attendees remembered the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
The Speaker was also honoured to listen to moving testimonies from Holocaust and genocide survivors in Speaker's House.
