Westminster Hall debate
On Wednesday 8 February 2023, Sally-Ann Hart MP led a Westminster Hall debate on climate change and biodiversity.
Introducing the topic, she gave the following statement:
"Cutting and sequestering carbon are essential in the fight against climate change, Nature-based solutions including protecting and restoring our biodiversity and natural ecosystems are vital in this fight.
"The reality of climate change is that every country, including the UK, will need to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Taking steps now to adapt to future change will make us more resilient and less vulnerable to its impacts.
"I am delighted to have secured this debate, which gives an important opportunity to discuss how nature-based solutions offer cost-effective adaptation to climate change whilst also providing benefits to people and wildlife.
"Adaptation encompasses everything from water storage to drought-resistant crops, from green urban areas to protecting and restoring natural indigenous ecosystems and I look forward to hearing from colleagues across the House on this subject."

What is a Westminster Hall Debate?
Westminster Hall debates take place in the Grand Committee Room in the House of Commons.
They give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister.
Debates in Westminster Hall take place on ‘general debate' motions expressed in neutral terms. These motions are worded ‘That this House has considered [a specific matter]'.
